Heather Gray is an interdisciplinary artist based in San Luis Obispo, California. She paints with an affinity for monochrome palettes, mixing textures, matte finishes, and abstract forms. With a deep interest in exploring the tenderness and heart-work of the human experience through art, Heather seeks to stir and amplify light within the viewer, believing, "the artist vocation is to send light into the human heart," (George Sand).

a.part together

a.part together is a collection of ten paintings, by Heather Gray, created during the time of staying home from winter 2020 to spring 2021. This body of work began with life at a distance; six feet apart, wearing masks, life through zoom, existing in bubbles, missing human contact, living in a sanitized world… being a.part together in this strange and novel experience we find ourselves in.

These paintings were created out of a desire to process and further investigate new ways of living and being during this time, finding connection, seeking lightness in heavy days, and finding gratitude for things missed in normal life. Each piece is an exploration of looking inward, pausing in moments of anxiety to ground within Breath and Bone, feeling the brightness of the sun on skin along Axon and seeing through Macula and Photoreceptors, exploring thoughts in Lucid, lightness in Feather, and the idea of moving through the world as cells within a greater body/collective in Centriole and Centrosome, culminating in the understanding of Symbiosis in our mutual benefit and interdependence.

These paintings are an invitation to explore your experience and your heart during this time while we are a.part together.
